CFDA Awards fashion 2014: Rihanna goes nude, while Blake Lively and Solange Knowles shimmer

The Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards, or CFDA Awards if you want less of a mouthful, last night honoured Rihanna with its Fashion Icon gong.
The award was presented by editor of US Vogue, Anna Wintour, who said that with Rihanna ‘the point is to be audacious — even jaw-dropping or button-pushing’.
And the Bajan star showed she’d got the memo with her red-carpet outfit for the night, a stunning shimmering Adam Selman fishnet dress with matching gloves and 1920s headscarf, studded with around 216,000 Swarovski crystals.

On collecting the award, the seemingly supremely confident star told the audience that fashion had always been her defence mechanism: ‘I can compensate for all my weaknesses with my fashion,” she said, adding: ‘There are rules, but rules are meant to be broken.’
